Information about Jewelry from PIECE OF POETRY:

Materials that are used for the articles in the Piece of Poetry collection are precious metals such as silver and gold-plated silver with 18 K gold. Gemstone and Howlite stones. Below you find more information.

Yellow gold

Yellow gold is alloyed with silver and copper. The very common rose or pink gold is an alloy with more copper than in yellow gold. The more silver an alloy consists of, the more yellow the gold will be. The common 18 K yellow gold consists of 75% gold, 16-17% silver and 8-9% copper. Pure gold is not hard enough to be used in jewelry, instead the most common forms are alloys of, copper, silver and/or palladium.

Sterling silver

Silver commonly used for high quality jewelry is called sterling silver. All silver jewelry from Piece of Poetry is made of sterling silver. The alloy consists of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. The reason the alloy is 7.5% copper is that native silver is too soft and therefore not strong enough to be used as jewelry.

Rhodium plated

Jewelry form Piece of Poetry are plated with a thin rhodium layer to improve its optical impression. Rhodium is a so-called noble metal, resistant to corrosion, found in platinum- or nickel ores together with the other members of the platinum group metals. The metal may darken or tarnish with normal wear.

Gemstones

Gemstones in jewelry from Piece of Poetry can be found in different types and colors. Agate stone and Howlite stone.

There are five essential features describing the quality of a gemstone: color, carat, hardness, clarity and cut. Of those, hardness is the primary factor in the evaluation of gemstones. The color of a gemstone is its most characteristic feature and is considered by gemologists to be the most important in estimating the gemstone’s value.

Care

To retain the beauty of jewelry from Piece of Poetry the pieces must be handled with care:

1. Please do not submerge your jewelry in water and do not shower or bath while wearing the jewelry.

2. Do not allow direct contact with chemicals such as perfume, detergent and lotion or other substances containing corrosive chemicals. The color of some gemstones may fade if constantly exposed to the sun. Excessive light, heat or moisture will deteriorate the quality of the gemstones and the plating of the metal.

3. Do not subject your jewelry to any undue stress and or pressure. Store the jewelry in our jewelry pouch.

The color of a gemstone is its most characteristic feature and is considered by gemologists to be the most important in estimating the gemstone’s value. For evaluation, color deviance, tone depth and saturation are studied first. It is worth mentioning that if all lengths of a light wave pass through and/or are reflected, the object is colorless. If all the lengths of a light wave are absorbed instead, the object is black.
